Rango- A Review

Recently I had the pleasure of watching RANGO at my University's movie theater (more on this theater later) and I have to say that it is truly a great piece of entertainment, the voice acting, the animation, the action, everything seemed to be made to the level of a Pixar movie, if I could compare it with another animated movie it would have to be "Happy Feet" because of the level of realism that they were shooting for and how well it all came together. Although the story might be a bit predictable, it is the forgiven by the amount of inventiveness found throughout.

The story is that of a pet chameleon with a theatrical flair, who finds himself in the middle of a dessert town called "Dirt" where, by means of his acting skills, he becomes the sheriff. His job is to find out what/who is behind the extremely short supply of water. This movie is an Ode to the westerns, as such it might not be a very kid-friendly movie, but everyone else is sure to be enthralled by its visuals, plus the older audience will get the movie references and enjoy it even more.

As stated before this is a review of the blu-ray experience which is not up-to-par with the cinema look, but it is pretty close, at least with respect to this movie. The aforementioned movie theater where I watched RANGO is nothing more than a classroom auditorium with a big screen projector and a blu-ray player. Having said that I am, for the first time, truly impressed at this technology. I have seen other blu-ray movies in this "theater" and they truly disappointed me in terms of clarity and definition, but RANGO was so clear that it was defying the picture quality found in the major cinemas here in Charlotte. This was such a welcomed surprise because of the amount of detail that the animators included in every single frame.

Rango is a superior entry to the world of cg animated movies by the folks at Industry Light & Magic. I, for one, am hoping that they keep producing such high quality material to keep other studios from dishing out poor sequels just for the sake of profit.
